RESEARCH CAREER DEVELOPMENT

The University of Maryland Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center (UM-OAIC) is committed to research training for investigators and staff. Several training and educational opportunities are available; please click on the links below to learn more about these opportunities.

RESEARCH CAREER DEVELOPMENT CORE
To provide opportunities for research training, the UM-OAIC has established the Research Career Development Core for young investigators. This core provides an enriched, mentor-based research training and educational environment to promote the career development of Junior Faculty Awardees as independent investigators in aging-related exercise rehabilitation research. Additionally, this core will enable young investigators to become leaders in gerontology and rehabilitation medicine in academic centers. ADDITIONAL EDUCATIONAL AND TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES
There are continuous opportunities for the faculty and staff of the UM-OAIC to facilitate and participate in educational seminars and lecture sessions. Below please find the regular educational opportunities that are available to the UM-OAIC faculty and staff:

  • Weekly Gerontology Research Conference
  • Gerontology Programs at the University of Maryland Conference Calendar
  • Data/Journal Club Conferences: participating centers include the Baltimore VA Medical Center’s Geriatric Research, Education, and Clinical Center, UM-OAIC, VA Rehabilitation Research and Development Center of Excellence in Exercise and Robotics for Neurological Disorders
  • VISN 5 Geriatrics Grand Rounds: Third Friday of each month
