The mission of the Neuromotor Function Core is to provide the expertise and investigator resources to assess the biomechanical and neurological mechanisms of functional performance with particular emphasis on gait, reaching and balance in older people with physical disabilities due to stroke, hip fracture or other chronic diseases associated with aging and disability. The aims of Research Core 2 are: 1. Provide reliable human performance measures to enhance the rehabilitation science of Center protocols and define the disability phenotype of older individuals with chronic disabilities: A. Develop new methodology to investigate neuromotor control and brain function. B. Integrate motor learning principles and new technologies into exercise rehabilitation strategies. C. Conduct research examining central and peripheral neural mechanisms underlying recovery.
