The Center has established a Pilot and Exploratory Studies Core. This core provides start-up support for quality research proposals of high relevance to the Center’s mission and aims. The UM-OAIC selects and funds pilot and exploratory research studies to gain the knowledge necessary to develop future projects to optimize the recovery of older adults with chronic conditions associated with aging. Our goal is to select and fund the highest quality pilot and exploratory research studies that will lead to future projects that will optimize the recovery of older individuals who are disabled following a stroke, hip fracture or other chronic conditions. Each submitted proposal receives an evaluation for scientific merit by at least two external reviewers, and then by UM-OAIC leadership (Core Leadership Executive Committee and the Program Advisory Committee) for relevance to the Center’s mission and aims. The Core leaders assist investigators in accessing resources from other cores and institutional research programs and centers, monitor and evaluate the progress of studies, and ensure the safety and protection of human subjects.
Currently, the Center is not accepting new pilot applications. Submit your letter of intent to Rosamond Leacock Martin at rlmartin@grecc.umaryland.uedu.
